Storefront Reviews
Your homepage will get a new component after you install the Storefront Reviews extension. This component gives you the ability to show reviews in a range of different formats and settings. In addition, there is a shortcode that you can use to display reviews in other parts of your shop’s website.
Usage
This extension consists of two parts: the homepage section, which is automatically added to pages that have the Homepage template assigned, and the shortcode, which provides you with the flexibility to display reviews in any location you like. The homepage portion is applied automatically.
The homepage component
By default, the most recent reviews will be displayed on the homepage after the new component for the homepage has been added and “hooked in” to the action for the homepage with a priority of 90.
The Customizer, which is displayed whenever a page is viewed that has the Homepage template applied to it, is used to handle the configuration of this component. You will notice a new section on that page titled ‘Storefront Reviews’ if you open the Customizer by going to the Appearance menu and selecting the Customize option.
At this point, you have discretion over the variety of design options as well as the selection of reviews that will be displayed. Now, we are going to go through each setting one by one:
Product reviews title
Using these settings, you are able to edit the headline that is displayed on the homepage, directly above the reviews. If you do not wish to display a title, you need only leave this field blank.
Reviews to display
You have the ability to select which reviews will be displayed here. You can also enjoy further flexibility by selecting either of these two additional options: by default, the most recent reviews that were posted on your store will be displayed.
Reviews of a specific product
If you choose this option, a new input box will show up, and you will be able to type in a product ID there. Should you choose to do so, just the most current reviews pertaining to that product will be shown to you. On the Products tab of your dashboard, the quickest and easiest approach to obtain a product ID is to hover over a product while doing so.
Specific reviews
If you choose this option, a new field will appear that gives you the opportunity to enter a list of individual review IDs that is separated by commas. When this is done, only those particular reviews will be displayed on the homepage. You can locate a particular review ID by navigating to the Comments screen located within your dashboard. When you get there, move your mouse over the review you want to display, and then click the link that says “Unapprove.” Take note of the destination URL, which, if you’re utilizing Chrome, should be located in the bottom-left corner of the window. Following the reference to comment.php, the query string will have a number appended to it. This is the comment ID, which is that number.
Gravatar
The legitimacy of the review is increased when the Gravatar of the reviewer is shown. However, depending on who frequents your store, you may discover that a relatively small percentage of your clientele actually use Gravatars. It is most likely that the best course of action in this scenario is to conceal the Gravatars.
Maximum reviews
The maximum number of reviews that can be displayed can be controlled with this parameter. You can ignore this setting if you are displaying only certain reviews and have entered the IDs for those reviews.
Review columns
This configuration option determines the number of columns into which the reviews are divided. You have the option of using either one, two, or three columns for your layout.
Carousel
When the Carousel option is enabled, rather than stacking the reviews, they will appear in a carousel that may be scrolled through.
Star color
With this setting, you’ll be able to alter the hue of the star rating display that appears across your entire website.
