Give – Gift Aid
A tax relief incentive is used in the Give Gift Aid Addon programme, which was established by the government of the United Kingdom (UK) to encourage donors to give additional money. Gift Aid is a programme that enables individuals who are income taxes in the UK to complete a statement that they are in fact taxpayers in the UK. Donations to charitable organisations made by a taxpayer are counted as having been made after income tax at the standard rate of 20% having been deducted from the whole amount. After that, the charity can submit a claim to HMRC to get a refund of the income tax at the basic rate that was paid on the gift. This increases the value of any gift made through Gift Aid by approximately 25 percent for a taxpayer who pays the basic rate.
If you are collecting donations in the United Kingdom but do not make it possible for donors to make their gifts through Gift Aid, then you are throwing money away. If a donor chooses to participate in Gift Aid in the United Kingdom, the charity they support is eligible to receive an additional 25 pence for every pound that the donor contributes.
